Commentary:
The T.J. Evans trail is part of the Licking County Recreational Trail System. The total length of the trail system is just over 38 miles. The T.J. Evans portion runs from Johnstown to Newark in Licking County.
SURFACE/CONDITION: The surface is Asphalt and the condition varies from good to poor. There are several sections throughout this trail with large cracks, bumps, and potholes. Some of these places are marked with paint, many are not. A bicyclist must take care and be alert throughout the ride.
RESTROOMS/WATER/FOOD : Evans Wildwood Park on West Liberty in Grandville has restrooms and water. Food is available in Granville and Newark.
TRAFFIC/BIKE SHOPS: This trail crosses Rt. 661 in Granville which can be pretty busy at times. Often at this intersection I have had motorists stop and wave us across. Very appreciate and very polite. The rest of the crossings are moderately busy, but as always increasing in traffic during peak driving times.
PARKING: There is ample parking in Granville near the Waste treatment facility just east of Rt.661 and at Evans Wildwood Park on West Broadway roughly a mile from the center of Granville. In Johnstown at Jersey street and Douglas avenue just east of route 37. In Newark at Cherry Valley road and at James road. See Map below for more details.
HIGHLIGHTS/CONCERNS/POSITIVES: The biggest concern which I have already mentioned is the condition of the asphalt. As your are cycling this trail you must pay close attention to the trail surface, which detracts somewhat from a nice ride.
Just about any paved trail is a good trail. It is worth cycling this trail if you've never done it before .
Good bicycling
